About Us

Edna Illidge Tobin, a social education worker and humanitarian, lives in Holland, Netherlands and has been there for over 34 years. Edna was born on the island of St. Maarten. She is the daughter of Almin Tobin and Lowie Illidge. Edna has been visiting St. Kitts since the age of seventeen and loves St. Kitts and Nevis. She has helped persons in Holland and friends and family members who migrated to the Netherlands, especially residents of St. Maarten after the passage of Hurricane Irma in 2017. She provided clothing and food and helped them to find their way around Holland. She even opened her home to provide shelter for her family who travelled to Holland after Hurricane Irma.

Edna’s recent visits to St. Kitts were in 2015, 2022 and 2023. Since her announcement to establish a non-profit, she has made plans to visit the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis in the first quarter of 2024. It was during Edna’s visits to the Federation that she met many families who had been severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic: loss of jobs, death or illness of family members. Edna heard many stories from parents, single mothers, guardians, and siblings about the difficult choices of deciding whether to buy limited amounts of costly food or clothes and school supplies. Edna vowed to lend support to as many families as possible in the Federation by helping the less fortunate and vulnerable. Thus, The Stitching Edna Illidge Tobin Helping Hands non-profit was birth out of the need to assist families and individuals who are disadvantaged.

She has partnered with the management at the Cardin Home, Addie’s Place and select schools in St. Kitts and Nevis. Recently, individuals and a school in Nevis have been recipients of Edna’s generosity of a wide assortment of clothes, shoes, personal stuff, and school supplies. The Stitching Edna Illidge Tobin Helping Hands has been a source of great help to recipients in St. Kitts and Nevis. On these occasions, Edna brought many boxes and suitcases of clothes, sneakers, sandals and bags to be distributed to Ade’s Place and others in the communities. Edna has been described as an “angel” by many persons in the St. Kitts community.
